Sago Chethi Rotti (Indian Pearl Handcake)

Sago is very ideal for breaking fasts it is rich in carbohydrate and gives a quick boost of energy.Sago is man made after the starch is extracted from sago palm stems. The commercial production of sago is in the shape of small globules or pearls.

There are many variations in preparing this dish sago chethi roti, this version is made by my mom ,in andhra we make different types of chethi rottis with different ingredients.

Also according to regions, in telugu is known as chethi(hand) rotti, in marathi thalipeeth etc a direct translation of it would be a handcake !!

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup sabudana / indian pearl (Soaked in 1.5 cup water for 3-4 hrs )
  • 1 tsp chickpea flour
  • 1 tsp rice flour
  • 3 Medium Potatoes boiled and mashed
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 4 finely chopped green chillies
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/2 inch grated ginger
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp oil per handcake
Cooking procedure:

Add all the above ingredients except oil into a nice blend.Mix it properly by adding 3/4 cup water it should a semi solid consistency.

Heat a pan, spray oil on it ,take a handful of sago paste n make it a ball and put it lightly on the pan, with your palm spread it slowly into a circle , spray oil again.

Tip: To make it easy to spread dip ur hand in water and press lightly to spread it.

After 2-3 min flip it and let it cook till both sides are golden brown.

Serve hot .

I am posting this recipe for the wonderful event Cooking with Seeds Sago hosted by Neluifer started by Priya

And also to the holy event Iftar Moments Hijri 1431 hosted by Umm Mymoonah
