This weekend i was chatting with my vadina(bhabhi) from vijaywada and she was very excited to see me blogging. She is a wonderfull cook and she shared this tasty recipe with broken wheat(dalia),moong dal and spinach.Besides looking attractive,it has its own unique taste n flavor and it will simply melt in ur mouth ..try this i am sure u will fall in love with this healthy khichdi (porridge). Its very ideal meal for diabetics too.
Serving for 4, preparation n cooking time 30 min
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cup broken wheat(dalia)
- 1 cup split yellow mung lentils(moong dal)
- 2 cups chopped spinach
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- salt to taste
For tempering
- 2 tbsp ghee/clarified butter
- 1/2 inch grated ginger
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp freshly grounded black paper
- 2 green chillies
- a pinch of hing (asafoetida)
Cooking Procedure
Boil 5 cups of water in a deep bottom pan n add moong dal and stir occasionally
After 75 percent dal seems cooked add broken wheat and stir every 2 min
As it thickens add more water when necessary, it should be appropriate enough to stir with mild effort
Once the wheat is almost cooked add the spinach ,turmeric powder and salt and mix nicely
Once dal become soft switch off the flame and ensure it has a soft flow cosistency
For tempering
Heat ghee in a pan add cumin seeds once it splutter
Add ginger ,black paper and green chillies and let it fry for a while
add this tempering to the above pan n mix it nicely ..
Enjoy ur healthy khichdi with green salad , pickle or potato chips
The khichdi looks really tempting! And whats more its healthy too!!

ReplyDeleteI made this last night and it was great! I had to use bulgur wheat, as I didn't have regular cracked wheat, but I don't think it compromised the recipe since they are similar. I made half of the recipe and it was still quite a lot!! Thank you for this...I will be making again and again!!
